INFO: The Eye The Ear and The Arm, whose founding members Darin Green(guitar) and Derek Coburn(bass, vocals) have been experimenting musically together for as far back as they can remember, have at last delivered a debut album worthy of praise. After having spent years actively working their local scene, rotating drummers and lending their talent to other bands both on the road and in the studio, they finally enlisted JD Knotts on drums as the final piece of the trio. With this lineup set in stone and a host of songs to choose from, the guys found themselves in Alex Newport’s downtown Los Angeles studio laying down an LP’s worth of tracks. Working with both Alex and Mike Russell of Amestory, slowly but meticulously shaping their sound, the band finished recording Paths in early 2007 and delivered it to our eager hands here at Portia. What The Eye The Ear and The Arm is, is a guitar band free of guitar band clichés. Green’s guitar supplies not only color but rhythmic quality while Coburn’s presence on bass ranges from the subtle to the total fuzzed-out urgency that few can tastefully accomplish. These two elements are backed up by JD’s drumming, tailored to every track while always retaining its power and driving force, presenting us with a tightly-bound package of, well… rock. While currently adjusting to their recent relocation to Los Angeles, the trio is gearing up to support the release of Paths due out early fall on Portia.
