INFO: Chicago's Twinight label is today best known-- okay, only known-- for Syl Johnson, the soul singer behind "Come On Sock It to Me" and, later, "Is It Because I'm Black?" During the label's brief life (1967-72), he was the only artist to chart a single. In fact, he charted many. However, according to Twinight Lunar Rotation, the latest entry in the Numero Group's fascinating Eccentric Soul series, Johnson's labelmates' lack of success does not reflect on their talents, just as the obscurity of their music in no way mirrors its quality.
