INFO: James Vincent McMorrow is an Irish folk music singer-songwriter. His debut album Early in the Morning was released in February, 2010.[1] He wrote the album during a self-imposed seclusion in a beach house in Ireland.[2] His music has been compared to Bon Iver,[3] Sufjan Stevens,[4] and Ray LaMontagne.[5] Tracks from Early in the Morning have already been used in American television programs.[6] He was nominated for the Hope for 2009 Award at the 2009 Meteor Awards, but ultimately lost to Wallis Bird.[7]

INFO: In the summer of 2010, Thom Hill met Linda Jarvis while studying at Camberwell Art College in South London. The two instantly connected after discovering the ex-choir girl's voice perfectly complemented the tracks Thom had been crafting in his bedroom, and they decided to work on a new project together, which would come to be known as Echo Lake.
Matching driving rhythms with ethereal, gorgeous melodies, Echo Lake is an arresting take on the droney side of psychedelia's pop frontier. The band's demos were quickly discovered by indie label and blog No Pain In Pop, who signed the band and posted some of the songs on the blog. The tracks garnered critical praise almost immediately, and were featured on Pitchfork, Gorilla vs Bear and The Fader.
The songwriting duo decided to take a bit of time off from school to record and put together a band with some friends from Thom's hometown of Birmingham. Keen to avoid the stigma often attached to bedroom projects' live performance, they shed the backing tracks the recordings were based on and replaced with a tight, loud set up for shows.
Echo Lake's debut EP, Young Silence, is set to be released via No Pain In Popon February 14 (UK) and February 15 (US). Recalling a pre-Sub Pop Beach House crossed with a more raw side of My Bloody Valentine, it's as bold and complete of a statement as you can expect from a band so young.

INFO: You might remember Colin Caulfield, aka Young Man, from his YouTube covers of indie darlings Deerhunter (posted on the their blog) Animal Collective, Beach House, and some band called the Beatles. He also writes his own songs, and a few of them are up at his MySpace: check out "Five", which features some self-harmonizing and hypnotic production of guitars, spacey synth organs, and various percussive flourishes. This is from a forthcoming release simply called Boy.

INFO: Going Places was entirely self-recorded and self-engineered at Montag’s home studio, Micro Ohne Studio 3 in Vancouver. Adding to his solo-project, Montag assembled an all-star line-up of guest artists including long-time collaborators and friends Anthony Gonzales of M83, Amy Millan of Stars, and Québécois hip-hop artist, Ghislain Poirier. Label-mate Victoria Legrand of Beach House and touring partners Au Revoir Simone add vocals, as do Vancouver-based singers Ida Nilsen of Great Aunt Ida and Leah Abramson. One of the record’s most beautiful moments is the duet, Softness, I Forgot Your Name, featuring Polaris-prize winning Owen Pallett of Final Fantasy. Recorded long-distance, the duet features surprising touches of modern opera, and as a man-on-man duet, is a rarity in indiepop music.
On the title track, Going Places, Montag recruits even more collaborators (70 to be exact) from 15 different countries. Wishing to capture new sounds and to charge the song with a real sense of traveling, Montag launched an open call for clips, the online “We Have Sound Cyber-Collaboration Project.” The result is a condensed collage of motion and travel and a sort of thesis statement for the entire album. Going Places is an experience of the love of music, life and movement.

INFO: Beach House, Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand, have been playing music forever, each since childhood in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and France . Beach House formed in the summer, it was very late at night and there was a lot of heat. Their songs start simple and grow organically like tiny skeletons that multiply layers of necessary flesh. In the Beach House world, outside influences have been purely atmospheric. There are many groups and artists that have entranced the duo: Zombies, Brian Wilson, Neil Young, Big Star, Chris Bell, the list goes on; however, there isn't one particular group or artist that Beach House admires more than another. By not forcing the way their songs come to fruition and by allowing all of their ideas to exist and play freely, an otherworldly space is created: organs, slide guitars, reverb, harmony, layers, accidents, echoes and melodies stand by themselves like the ones in everyone's childhood memories.

INFO: Having grown up in the exuberant chaos of the Canadian folk music community, the members of Spiral Beach - Daniel and Airick Woodhead, Maddy Wilde and Dorian Thornton - spent their formative years hanging around backstage jams at festivals across the country. As a group these young performers create edgy and inventive pop music that draws inspiration from the Beatles, Talking Heads and Radiohead. Their distinctive sound combines a strong groove with clever harmonies. Previous gigs include....NXNE, Ottawa Folk Festival, Blue Skies Festival, City Roots-City Wide plus dates at the Drake, Gladstone, Cameron House, Sneaky Dee's and the Reverb. They are already booked for festivals next summer. Spiral Beach has two previous EPs, and have just released their new self-titled CD.
