Choir of Young Believers

ARTIST / BAND: Choir of Young Believers
SONG (MP3): “Patricia’s Thirst”
ALBUM: This Is For The White In Your Eyes,
FILE UNDER: indie
LABEL: ghostly
INFO: Choir of Young Believers, led by Jannis Noya Makrigiannis, garnered an imposing number of accolades in their Danish homeland for a debut full-length. That release, This Is for the White in Your Eyes, signaled the arrival of a powerful new talent, possessed of a fully formed vision, arch compositional ingenuity and a tenor to die for. While White in Your Eyes racked up overwhelmingly positive international press, it can practically be seen as a soft launch for Choir of Young Believers’ masterful Rhine Gold.

Crushed Stars

ARTIST / BAND: Crushed Stars
SONG (MP3): Window
ALBUM: In The Bright Rain
FILE UNDER: indie rock
LABEL: Simulacra Records
INFO: Sitting down to record his latest album, Todd Gautreau says he “[attempted] to make a more optimistic record. . . see if I could construct more universal pop songs.” Gautreau’s band, the Dallas-based Crushed Stars, isn’t exactly a project known for its uplifting ditties. Still, with a vocal quality hinting at Michael Stipe’s more down-beat moments and a musicality echoing Red House Painters, there is something universal about the new album, In The Bright Rain.

Crystal Bright and the Silver Hands

ARTIST / BAND: Crystal Bright and the Silver Hands
SONG (MP3): "Especially Your Mother"
ALBUM: Muses & Bones
LABEL: s/r
INFO: Out in the woods she lived, all alone. At least that’s what it felt like, never belonging to any one group and having a penchant for the oppressed. Crystal did not come from a musical family, and unlike so many children who are forced into music lessons, at age seven she practically ran away to her piano teacher’s house down the street – books in her basket – pedaling as fast as she could down the gravel road – dust flying behind.

When she was still young, a little demon told her that she shouldn’t sing, that it sounded better when she just played the piano, but she was determined to ignore the demon and sing her heart out anyway. But sometimes the influence of the demon rendered her silent and still, and her hands seemed to be void of life.read more from the source...
